The New York Times Draws Crowds and New Subscribers
The New York Times Word Cloud Portraits, an engaging digital interactive experience at CES, generates buzz with thousands of attendees lining up to take part. The Times offers a personalized, frame-matted word cloud portrait printout and digital copy to share online. CES attendees take a photo of themselves using an iPad, then select their favorite section of The New York Times like the Arts or Business. The app then searches for articles by section and renders the attendee’s portrait using the words from the articles. As portraits are created, large portrait mosaics appear on a big screen in the booth, attracting even more attention from visitors.
The New York Times Word Cloud Portraits experience gives salespeople opportunity to talk about all the amazing content available to subscribers including video, multimedia and photography. The digital activation helps renew interest in The New York Times brand and increases at-show subscriptions by 150%. The digital experience is so successful, the NYTimes uses it at other events including MacWorld and SXSW.
CES is the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It serves as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for over 50 years—the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.
