Beyoncé may have said it best when she proclaimed, “Who run the world? Girls!” March is not only Women’s History Month, March 8th is International Women’s Day—a day for people to honor the powerful women who’ve shaped their lives, made a difference in their career, or served as their role models. To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Esports Observer is profiling female leaders in the esports industry, including Sparks’ own Christie St. Martin, senior director of social strategy. Sharing their achievements, the profiles are part of a special five-part series.
A longtime gaming fan, St. Martin jokes about her early love of the game Spy vs. Spy, saying “I should have known this would be my thing ever since grade two.” That passion for gaming stuck for St. Martin and in her profile, she shares that it eventually led to her joining the Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL) (“And so the esports passion began, ” she says).
Detailing how her passion for gaming and subsequent work in social media strategy would come together to pave the way for her role in the esports industry, St. Martin says “Since University I had been in working in what would later be called social media marketing which turned into social strategy, and finally, here we are today when my two passions collide in the best possible way.”
